Migrating Active Clients from a third-party payment processor to Stripe

If you're currently using a different payment gateway, like a payment processor through your current software, or any other payment service, you might be wondering how to move your customer payment information. No worries, we've got you covered! Here's a simple step-by-step guide to help you with the migration process.

Key Things to Remember

  1. Remember that you need to have Stripe connected to Fitune before initiating the payment data migration.

  2. After Stripe confirms the migration, make sure to check if the cards are showing up correctly in your Stripe account.

  3. Timelines: Please note the following timelines for completion of your payment data migration from your current software and Stripe:

  • Transfer from current software to Stripe:
    Expect this to take about 1 to 2 weeks, depending on which software you're using.

  • Transfer from Stripe to your account:
    Expect this to take around 1 week.

Step 1: Have a new stripe account connected to Fitune

First things first, you'll need a Stripe account and then connect it to Fitune by going to Fitune admin > Settings > Payment Gateway Need more help with this? Check out our guide on Connecting Stripe Account to Fitune

Step 2: Contact your current software provider

Now, you need to get in touch with your current software provider to kick off the payment data transfer process. You can request them to prepare an encrypted credit card export file that includes client IDs/key and email.

Step 3: Share the key info with your current software provider

Your current software provider will ask you for a couple of things:
the Migration PGP Key and the New Stripe Account ID.

  1. The Migration PGP Key: Confirm that you'll be using Stripe and share this link, their PGP key: https://docs.stripe.com/get-started/data-migrations/pan-import#migration-pgp-key

  2. For your Account ID: Login to Fitune admin > Settings > Payment gateway > You will see the Account ID here (see image below)

Step 4: Inform Stripe support team

The next thing to do is to inform Stripe's Support team about the data transfer. Stripe would require an intake form to be filled. For this, you can log in to your Stripe account and open this link

What type of data migration can we assist you with?

Select Import data from third party into Stripe account

Which processor or third party is currently storing your payment method data?

The name of the payment processor your current software is using

What payment types would you like to import?

Cards

Estimate how many records will be included in your import.

Select an option based on number of customers who have added card on your current software

What is your preferred mapping file format?

CSV

Do you want to import data into Stripe Customer objects that already exist in your Stripe account?

No

Have you already contacted your previous processor to export your data?

Yes

Other questions they might ask:

Are you using a third party subscription platform with Stripe

Yes, Fitune would be the third-party subscription. We would need the Stripe team to import only the saved cards. Preference would be card_ and pm_

Do you have existing payment data in your Stripe account? If so, are the object IDs currently pm_, card_, or src_ ?

No, as it is a new account there is no existing data

Step 5: Stripe verification

Once your current software sends the data to Stripe, Stripe will ask you to share two card numbers for verification purposes

Once Stripe confirms everything, they'll load the data and give you an update.

Step 6: Verify your data in Stripe

To double-check that the data transfer went smoothly, log in to your Stripe account and navigate to the "Customers" section to see if the data has been uploaded.
