3D Secure Payments

This article explains what 3D Secure (3DS) cards are, how they work in Fitune, and what clients can expect when a payment requires additional authentication.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure (3DS) is an extra layer of security used by many banks and credit card providers to verify a cardholder's identity before completing a payment.

Depending on the card and bank, clients may be asked to:

  • Approve the payment in their banking app

  • Enter a one-time passcode (OTP)

  • Complete an additional verification step

This helps prevent unauthorized transactions and reduces fraud.

How 3D Secure Works in Fitune

When a client uses a card that requires 3D Secure verification, Fitune automatically displays the authentication flow provided by Stripe.

If the verification is completed successfully, the payment will be processed normally.

Example

  1. The client clicks Pay Now.

  2. Stripe displays a 3D Secure verification popup.

  3. The client completes the verification requested by their bank.

  4. The payment is successfully processed.

What Happens if the Payment Fails?

If the payment cannot be processed, the client will see an error message indicating that the payment was unsuccessful.

This can happen if:

  • The authentication is not completed

  • The bank declines the transaction

  • The card requires additional verification

  • There are insufficient funds

  • The card cannot be charged for that transaction

Alternative Payment Option

When a payment attempt fails, Fitune automatically provides a secure Stripe payment page where the client can:

  • Retry the payment

  • Use a different payment method

  • Complete the payment directly through Stripe

⚠️ Best Practices

  • Encourage clients to complete any verification requests from their bank.

  • If a payment fails, try another saved card or payment method.

  • Ensure the card is enabled for online purchases.

  • Verify that sufficient funds are available.

❓ FAQs

What is a 3D Secure card?

A credit or debit card that requires additional identity verification before certain online payments can be completed.

Will every payment require authentication?

Not necessarily. Most 3D Secure cards only require verification when the card is first added or when the bank identifies a higher-risk transaction.

What happens if the client does not complete the verification?

The payment may be declined and the client will be prompted to try again or use another payment method.

Can clients still complete their purchase if the payment fails?

Yes. Fitune provides a secure Stripe payment page where clients can retry the payment or use a different payment method.

🚀 Tip

If a client reports that a payment failed, ask them to check for any pending verification requests from their bank before attempting the payment again.
