Create Pay Rates and Assign Them to Your Staff

What is a pay rate?

A pay rate is an amount you pay your staff. You create your rates once in Pay rates, then assign them to each staff member. You can reuse the same rate across as many staff members, classes, events, and appointments as you want.

There are three types:

•  Per Class – a flat amount paid for a class or event the staff member teaches, no matter how many people book or attend. Example: "Group class – $40". 
• Per 1:1 Appointment – a flat amount paid for every appointment (1:1 service) the staff member teaches.
  Example: "1:1 session – $30".
•  Fixed Salary – a fixed amount, no matter whether the staff member teaches classes, events, or appointments, or not.
  For example, a trainer might get a fixed salary plus a per-class rate, while a front desk staff member might only get a fixed salary. Example: "Front desk salary – $300". 

Step 1 — Create your pay rates

1. In the left menu, go to Staff payroll > Pay rates.
2. Click + New pay rate in the top-right corner. A panel opens on the right.
3. Under Name this pay rate, type a name that's easy to recognize when you assign it later, for example "Coach standard rate" or "Senior instructor – class".
4. Under How would you like to pay your staff?, choose Per Class, Per 1:1 Appointment, or Fixed Salary.
5. Enter the amount:
• For Per Class or Per 1:1 Appointment, enter it in Flat rate. This is what your staff get paid for each class or appointment, no matter how many people book or attend.
• For Fixed Salary, enter it in Fixed amount. This amount is added automatically every pay period.
6. Click Save pay rate.

A rate needs a name, a type, and an amount before you can save it. The amount can be $0 or more.

Your rates appear on the Pay rates page, grouped into Per Classes, Per Appointments, and Fixed Salary, with the flat rate of each one. To edit or remove a rate, click the three dots (...) under Actions on its row.

1. Step 2 — Assign rates to a staff member

   1. Click Settings at the bottom of the left menu, then go to Staff.
   2.  Click the three dots (...) under Actions on the staff member's row and choose Edit.
      Adding someone new? Click + New staff. New staff members are added as Trainer by default, and you can set up their pay right away. They don't need access to the admin for this.

   3. In the menu on the left of their profile, click Compensation.
   4. Enable the pay rates that apply to this staff member: Pay per Class, Pay per 1:1 Appointments, and Fixed Salary. You can enable one, two, or all three.
   5. Choose the rates for each type (see below).
   6. Click Save pay rates.

Fixed Salary

Choose one fixed salary rate from the list. A staff member can only have one fixed salary.

If you haven't created a fixed salary rate yet, Fitune shows you a notice so you can create one in Pay rates first.

Per Class

Pays the staff member based on the rate assigned to each class.

1. Under Used for all classes, choose a rate. This is the default rate.
2. Under Apply this rate to, choose:
   • All classes – the default rate applies to every class this staff member teaches. The ideal option if you pay the same rate for every class.
   • Select specific classes – change the rate on the classes that should be paid differently. Any class you don't change keeps the default rate, marked with a Default label.

Per 1:1 Appointment

It works the same way as Per Class:

1. 1. Under Used for all 1:1 appointments, choose the default rate.
   2. Under Apply this rate to, choose All appointments, or Select specific appointments to change the rate on some of them. Anything you don't change keeps the Default rate.
   3. Click Show more services to see the full list.

What about classes or services I create later?
They automatically get the staff member's default rate. If one of them should be paid differently, come back to the Pay rates tab and change it.
